Thank you, Pam Gunther!
On November 15th, Pam Gunther, owner of Fit and Fun Playscapes, met with the fifth and sixth grade G&T students from Schools No. 1 and No. 3 to support this year’s “Art of Play” unit of study. While this is a design challenge for the fifth graders, the sixth graders were invited to attend because they will be providing input and insights as the teams work through their designs. Mrs. Gunther will continue with follow-up “work” sessions during the project, which will culminate in team presentations to a panel of judges. The “winning” team’s design will be manufactured by her company and the game/activity stencil will be painted on the playgrounds of Schools No. 1 and No. 3 for all to enjoy!
Thank you to the Fort Lee School District for supporting this project!

Thank You, Mayor Sokolich and Mr. Mignone!
On November 1st, Mayor Mark Sokolich and Borough Engineer, Mr. Ed Mignone, met with the fifth and sixth grade G&T students from Schools No. 1 and No. 3 to support this year’s Community Passive Park/Garden Design project. The mayor provided information regarding the property that is being donated to Fort Lee by the Luppino family and spoke about his vision for the park. Mr. Mignone provided tax and zoning maps and started to get the students to think like engineers who will solve problems inherent to this design process project. Mr. Mignone will continue with follow-up “work” sessions during the project, which will culminate in team presentations to a panel of judges. One aspect or more of the “winning” team’s design will be incorporated into the actual town plans.
2016-2017 WELCOME TO G&T where we INITIATE, IMAGINE, & INSPIRE!
Dear Parents,

Here is some general information regarding this year's Project Primary (Grades 1&2) and G&T program (Grades 3-6).
STEAM Push-In is here to stay for Grades 1 and 2! I will be conducting at least one lesson each month in each one of the classes. This new curriculum is designed to develop team building skills and/or to promote creative and critical thinking skills. Students will work in teams using the materials provided while following the given criteria to solve challenges within time constraints. They will have the opportunity to draw knowledge from all or several of the content areas represented in the STEAM acronym (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) and to work their way through steps on the engineering cycle. This is a wonderful context in which to nurture the intrinsic joy of curiosity that resides in the ripe young minds of your children. Ask them to tell you about the challenges and, if you dare, try some out at home!
An overview of the Grade 3-6 G&T program is forthcoming. In general students will "tinker" to learn and they will think creatively and critically to make a difference within themselves and perhaps even within their community! Let's STEAM ahead through the Engineering Design Loop and enjoy another great year together!
